This category was inspired by the fact that I am a huge reader…or at least I dream to be. There is nothing more beautiful, soothing or inspirational to me than a wall of books. I’m a little (ok, a lot!) compulsive about mine: they are all alphabetized. In addition (full confession), I collect first edition, signed books. They are my treasures.
I love every kind of book and author from Fancy Nancy to Charlotte Bronte. Her quote (from The Letters of Charlotte Bronte), “But life is a battle: may we all be enabled to fight it well!” seems very fitting right now.
Fiction? Nonfiction? Love. Love. Hospice books? Wonderful (sorry if that throws you for a loop)!
I have a newfound love of reading cookbooks. Perhaps this is because I have a dear friend who is a magnificent chef who inspires me. Plus, I love their beautiful photographs.
Fashion and design books? Ohhhhhh, yeeeeeees!!!!
Historical Fiction is my favorite genre. I adore being engaged and entertained by a book, while gleaming valuable information from it. That is what I call win-win.
My favorite books, however, are the ones referred to me by friends when they say, “You will love this.” This, to me, is the kindest, most thoughtful gesture.
So, I will be sharing my favorite reads throughout this process. While many will be memoirs or even clinical books, there will certainly be some unexpected surprises!
My favorite place to buy books is from independent retailers. I love Tecolote and Chaucer’s in Santa Barbara. When I can’t find what I’m looking for there, I go to www.abebooks.com. This website prides itself on compiling an inventory from independent booksellers from around the world. So cool.
